The Perfect Handmade Gift for New Parents!
Easy Baby Blanket in Cotton Muslin
YOU WILL NEED
4 yards total of our cotton muslin fabric which you can find here: https://fabrics-store.com/all-fabrics?article=IC008
OR
2 yards each of your 2 chosen co-ordinating prints or solids on this fabric.
TUTORIAL
1. Cut both layers of fabric to 49” x 49” square. You will need one layer each for the front and back, and additional layers can be cut if you would like to add an inner layer for additional warmth. You can use another layer of muslin, cotton batting, or even wool flannel. Be sure to cut away any selvedges.
2. Lay your fabric in the following order: Place the front and back blanket pieces with right sides together. If you are adding an inner layer, then simply place that on the top of the layered fabric pieces. Pin around the perimeter.
3. Sew around the perimeter, through all layers of fabric with a ½” seam allowance leaving a gap about a hands width along one of the edges.
4. Turn the blanket right-sides out so that the front and back are turned out, and the inner is sandwiched in between. Give the blanket a light press to help the edges and corners lay flat. Press in the seam allowances of the gap to the inside.
5. Sew the gap closed with an invisible stitch by hand, or sew closed by machine close to the edge. Next, run a topstitch around the perimeter of the blanket ½” from the edge for a neat finish.
Pop your finished blanket in the wash. This fabric has barely any shrinkage and no color run, so you can sew and wash with confidence. The fabric will become gently textured after washing and snuggly soft!
