Cutting layout
NOTE: Fabric is sewn before washing.
Diagram is based on our 59" wide cotton muslin fabric, and 3 yards.
Part 1 - Swaddle
1. Cut your swaddle fabric and cut away any selvedges. After hemming our swaddle will be 48” square which is a great size for a rapidly growing baby of various sizes.
2. Hem the sides using a double folded hem, folded ½” +½”. Start with two opposite sizes first. Fold, pin then topstitch in place.
3. Repeat the above steps for the remaining sides. Done!
Part 2 - Burp Cloths
1. Lay two 9” x 20” pieces with right sides together and pin around the perimeter.
Note: selvedges should be cut away.
2. Using a 3/8” seam allowance, start sewing from around the middle of one of the long sides. Sew all around the perimeter of the fabric, leaving a 3” gap from your starting point. remember to backstitch at the start and end of your sewing.
3. Turn the burp cloth right side out through the hole you have left in your sewing. Press the layers flat while tucking in the raw edges at the hole. Sew around the perimeter of the cloth 1/18” from the edge, which will close the gap and provide a professional finish!
Done! Pop them in the wash before gifting.
P.S. If you want to use up the remainder of the scrap fabric, you can make a teething ring. We found our pattern and tutorial HERE.
